This position is responsible for providing maintenance, mechanical, and supervisory support to the field operations and ensuring the safe operation of field equipment through the proper overhaul, maintenance and transportation of all field equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain proper operation of all field equipment through preventative maintenance, overhaul, and transportation.
Identify and correct mechanical / equipment problems and failures.
Supervise and instruct all machine operators in the safe and proper operation of equipment consistent with approved job model documentation.
Perform down season overhaul of assigned equipment projects, ensuring that all phases of the project are completed. Responsible for specifying parts required, scheduling work loads on project groups, and generating project documentation (i.e. work orders, parts orders), etc.
Help to maintain a safe and orderly work environment for all field personnel by identifying unsafe conditions and or operator actions and taking corrective actions, and repairing and correcting potential safety hazards as soon as they are identified.
Supervise of pre-harvest or planting crew at location when assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for supervising 3 – 10 equipment operators and production employees during assigned planting and pre-harvest operations.
Communication / Relationships: This position is expected to maintain ongoing contact with the maintenance superintendent, maintenance coordinator, harvest supervisors, equipment operators, low bed drivers, service truck driver, and other maintenance staff as needed to ensure clear and effective communication regarding job activities. May be expected to have some periodic contact with suppliers and vendors as directed.

Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Certificated, License, Registrations: Must have a valid drivers license and an agricultural hazardous materials transportation endorsement (or the ability to obtain endorsement upon hire).
Other Skills and Abilities: Must be able to work independently and identify / resolve problems with limited supervision.
Must have the understanding of, and the ability to work with, hydraulic, mechanical power transmission, and electrical systems.
Must have the ability to work with all types of hand and power tools.
Must have, or be able to obtain, a general understanding of agricultural operations (i.e. planting, harvesting).
The ability to speak and understand Spanish is desirable.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
During harvest and planting season works 10 – 4 schedule in field locations away from home.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
