Title: Principal Physical Chemist – Food Materials Science
Location: UK or USA
The person in this role will be the technical leader in the area of food materials science and texture understanding for the business. More specifically, the person will demonstrate and apply in-depth scientific knowledge and practical expertise in areas of multi-functional particles / colloids / emulsions and/or polymers as well as texture understanding that supports strategic and tactical plans.
Use technical expertise to identify, develop and create new business opportunities. Identify, define and solve complex business problems by applying broad technical knowledge as well as in-depth knowledge of technical specialty.
Act as a leader on complex projects and/or scientific activities by organizing, executing, and interpreting assignments that yield outstanding results and impact business goals.
Maintain current knowledge of developments inside and outside the company that are pertinent to the job and activity efforts through continuous education and training
Lead several projects or multiple project tracks with applications to multiple categories, globally.
Projects focus, typically delivering significant savings/additional revenue and involve leading cross functional teams or supporting ambitious growth plans in developing markets. Contribute the assessment of project value.
Take new research ideas and research findings and communicate and ‘sell’ them to the organization for growth, quality or margin improvement.
Update and communicate progress and results to platform manager or other relevant stakeholders, effectively structuring and presenting status updates / proposals to influence partners or share with higher management.
Degree/MSc/PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science.
10+ years of experience in Materials Science/ Physical Chemistry.
Proven track record of scientific/technical achievements relevant for position.
Experience interfacing with cross-functional parties (internal and external)
Experience managing and delivering against multiple projects simultaneously
Proven track record of presenting research projects or other scientific data at seminars & other scientific symposia.
Ability to apply scientific understanding to experiment planning and analysis of results
This role will suit a dynamic senior R&D professional, who is an expert in their field. Excellent communication skills and experience working in a matrix environment, will be an advantage.
