Mondelez International is looking for vacancy: Senior Scientist Consumer Science.

Position Purpose

Provide Consumer Science related support to Mondelēz global legal entities, per service agreements. This includes the North America Biscuit and Snacks category but may also include support to other regions and/or categories as organization priorities dictate. 
The role contributes to the planning and implementation of assigned research programs/projects that lead to actionable business results. 
The role requires the jobholder to work under indirect supervision of manager to plan and conduct independent projects as a fully engaged cross-functional team member.  

The jobholder develops project objectives and strategies independently in response to business needs, executing against same and recommending action plans to implement key findings; is comfortable with increasing levels of complexity and is capable of collecting data from various sources both internal and external. 

The jobholder significantly impacts the directions and quality of work done by other technical people, interacts regularly with other CS members at other locations and may direct activities of junior professionals and/or temporary staff while completing assignments. Begins interactions with professionals outside the company at professional meetings.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct single or multi stage medium sized projects, delivering to the required standards and agreed timescales, including designing research to meet objectives, to produce good quality, actionable data, interpreting results, reporting/presenting findings, making recommendations and contributing to decision making.

  • Lead category appraisal and DOE studies including the statistical principles applied as part of the overall research plan. 

  • Lead all aspects of consumer research both qualitative and quantitative including the integration/linking of descriptive and consumer data into a cohesive story. 

  • May support the execution of CAD (Consumer Aided Design) work by assisting in completing the research including assisting or leading portions of the executional elements including Knowledge Mapping, Value Diagramming, Product Labs and subsequent analysis and reporting of results.

  • Effectively partner with stakeholders (R&D and Commercial / Insights) ensuring that the work is in line with the strategic priorities of the business.

  • Gather relevant information from different sources to enrich understanding of the context of each project.

  • Work with the Consumer Science management team to prioritise workload.

  • Look for opportunities to provide informal coaching and to share experience with more junior colleagues.

  • Proactively seeking ways to improve all aspects of the department, including functional methodologies, practical solutions and facilities and presenting these ideas in an appropriate way to the Consumer Science management team.

  • Contribute to CS Team goals by participating on teams where new methodologies and capability are evaluated, proposed and implemented.

  • Contribute to efficient and safe running of the sensory laboratory, including maintenance of the quality system, ensuring that procedures are followed properly and highest standards of work and environment, health and safety are maintained.

  • Ensure two-way communication between yourself and other team members. 

  • Develop knowledge and expertise in relevant category areas.


Academic Knowledge
  • Education to at least Bachelors BA/BS level in Food Science/Technology/ Food Engineering and or a related discipline (e.g. psychology, statistics, consumer science, cognitive behavior) or correlated areas.
Working Knowledge
  • Preferred: Relevant training/work knowledge in sensory/consumer research as a core element of the role, including the application of statistical analysis e.g. requires an integrated grounding of descriptive and consumer research knowledge, experienced descriptive testing (descriptive & discrimination testing) and consumer testing (qualitative panels, focus groups, central location and home use tests).
  • Advanced skills in research design, statistical applications and modeling.
  • Proven track record of knowledge in the application of descriptive and consumer research in a FMCG client-side commercial environment e.g. requires complete knowledge of the total business including all elements of the business proposition, must have credible base as a business partner.
  • Proven knowledge of partnering with client/stakeholders as individuals and teams, as a strong element of this role will be the ability to build and maintain relationships. 
  • Ability to present a clear position, purpose and take a firm position on controversial topics.
  • Seeks insights from key internal/external stakeholders and partners.
  • Demonstrable competence in primary software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
  • Interest in food industry area.
  • Demonstrates competence in the use of the internet /intranet sites.
  • Language English (Intermediary / Advanced Level).
  • Ability to utilize effective negotiation skills to resolve conflict, gain alignment and build consensus.  
  • Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written), good organizational development skills.
