Our Rochester location creates natural fermented ingredients. The Rochester plant is growing and quickly becoming an employer of choice in the area. By offering strong wages, friendly culture and competitive benefits, we aim to make Kerry a destination for others to work.  With over 45 plant across North America & Canada, the plant in Rochester, MN, is a part of our Kerry Applied Health & Nutrition (AH&N) Division and has roughly 140 employees.  If you are looking to join a growing company and enjoy hands on project management in a food manufacturing environment, covering several plants, then we are looking for you!

The Project Engineer has the responsibility to lead and support engineering, systems integration, and process improvements through capital projects and operational efficiency projects within our manufacturing sites. 

Key responsibilities

You will oversees all phases of assigned projects from inception to final operation. Responsibilities include project planning, estimating, organizing project staff, coordinating, scheduling, installation, commissioning, and financial control.  Analyzes and evaluates project designs and ensures compliance with engineering principles, company standards and SSHE standards.  Optimizes existing processes using continuous improvement tools. Writes, troubleshoots, and debugs process control software that controls various plant operations.

During commissioning – some overnight work may be needed in this 24X7 manufacturing facility.

  • Creates capital proposal including scope document, cost estimate, and timelines for management review and approval. 
  • Upon approval of capital projects, manages projects to meet all technical requirements while assuring they stay on-time and within budget.  These responsibilities includes the development of a detailed scope of work, creation of equipment specifications, finalizing purchasing documents, creating and maintaining detailed timelines, expediting and receiving material and equipment, and commissioning activities.
  • Develops project specifications and systems by making calculations, preparing process flow diagrams (PFD’s), piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID’s), site and floor plans, elevation drawings, utilities matrices, and other project documentation as applicable.   
  • Leads the selection of contractors/vendors and supervises same in actual design and specifications of installations.
  • Directs the integration of technical activities and equipment in order to ensure that the desired project results satisfy initial requirements
Qualifications and skills

  • Do you have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Degree?
  • Do you bring demonstrated (3+ years) years Project Engineering experience, preferably related to Food, Beverage, Pharmaceutical or chemical processing?
  • Experience designing liquid systems (this includes tanks, pumps, piping, equipment layouts, sizing layouts, sizing control valves, line sizing & choice of materials.).
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Versed in project schedules, cost estimates, PFDs, P&IDs, site and elevation drawings, utilities requirements development, interpretation of P&IDs, with a good understanding of process and instrumentation control.
