Through direct face to face contact, understand clearly the color needs of customers. Provide them with color expertise and advice to meet those needs, either with existing color formulations or by developing new color formulations which are rigorously tested and validated in customer processes and recipes.
Direct Customer Contact
Proactively arrange or participate in visits of customer sites, making recommendations and ensuring all parties understand and agree on solution requirements.
Ensure that customer technical and regulatory requirements are sufficiently understood before color solutions are proposed and/or developed.
Ensure all relevant technical documentation (technical visit reports, customer insights, and minutes of meetings/calls) is available, accurate and up-to-date.
For defined market segments, follow-up customer sample requests – providing support, information and advice.
Provision of Technical advice for Color solutions
Provide sound technical advice and ensure high quality DF solutions by carrying out colour formulation and performance evaluation work in relevant food applications in all market segments (Savory, Sweet, Beverage, Color, Health & Nutrition, Baby Food, Candy/Confectionary).
Use best practice protocols, techniques and equipment, as recommended by their colleagues in the global color team.
Use specific equipment and methodologies to validate the efficacy of colour solutions including (but not limited to) spectrophotometry and colorimetry.
Write color application reports, including customer brief, development protocol, stability testing, colour shade matching and relevant supporting technical data, making them accessible to the global color platform and communicating results to customers in engaging reports/presentations/demos.
Develop New Color formulations
Drive development of new products, as part of agreed customer briefs and NPD projects in collaboration with Category from ideation to launch
Carries out robust testing and evaluation of new color formulations according to global color testing protocols.
Report to the R&D Platform Leader any potential Intellectual Property (IP) arising from R&D work carried out.
Demonstrate visible leadership on all aspects of Safety at personal, team and functional level.
Manage the Diana Food Color Application facilities in New Jersey (safety, equipment, operation, maintenance, budgeting, capability development).
Manage and prioritise color projects to ensure they are completed within agreed timeframes with agreed results.
External Orientation & global network
Form a knowledge/best practice network, sharing insights on food trends and competitor & customer activity.
Maintain an external network in NAM zone and propose any opportunities for potential collaborative partnerships.
Study market needs and stay abreast of new technology related to color selection, identification and communication and vet viable partners to support future development.
Be the first point of contact between the NAM zone and the global R&D organization
Identify and attend relevant external training courses, meetings and symposia as required by the business.
The physical demands of this position are limited to those found in a normal office environment.

The employee must routinely lift up to 25 pounds.
B.S in Food Science or related. Masters preferred but not required
5+ years’ experience in Food & Beverage industry in a technical/npd/applications role
Food & Beverage industry
Good technical knowledge of food colours (natural and synthetic) and their use
Good technical knowledge of the food industry and applications work
Ability to speak and write fluently in English
Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with other team members throughout DIANA Food organization both within the US and internationally.
Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Strong analytical skills, formulation skills
Previous experience of spectrophotometry and colorimetry is an advantage.
Solid organizational skills & ability to manage multiple projects and assignments
International working experience is beneficial but not essential
foreign languages are a bonus, but not essential.
