Executes Innova Flavor Application projects and technical initiatives to support the overall business strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Functions as a scientist to develop flavor applications that meet customer’s needs and the overall Innova business strategy
Applies scientific, engineering and culinary principles in research, development, production technology, quality control, processing and utilization of foods
Supports the Sales team and Sales activities by providing technical support which includes food preparation on site, at regional and national food shows, product demonstrations, events, customer visits, technical presentations, expos or as needed
Up to 25% travel may be required
Works with some independence exercising ingenuity and judgment in the approach to tasks. Responsible for the design, planning, execution, and reporting of experiments and projects with intermediate complexity.
Works within multiple priorities, projects and timelines concurrently
Uses technical, scientific, culinary and problem solving skills to approach projects
Communicates project progress internally and externally with customers, Sales team, managers and suppliers
Maintains GLP’s, GMP’s and all required laboratory records, using electronic systems and written protocols
Enters formulas and raw materials into Griffith Apps, and updates the Application’s database regularly with finished applications, usage levels and flavor recommendations
Conduct different types of basic sensory panels (triangle, difference from control) for various foods, reporting and interpreting the results
Makes project samples for submission to customers as required
Uses food science and culinary skills to create new, on trend, and exciting formulations in the practical use of flavors for customer demonstrations, food shows or as needed
Responsible for obtaining store-bought ingredients used in application projects & formulas at local supermarkets
Supports the commercial delivery of new/novel technologies in accordance with long term strategy
Collaborates with cross functional teams involved in implementing the new/novel technologies, processes or raw materials developed through research
Supports commercial activities by providing consultation and recommending appropriate usage levels, stability and performance of current flavors or HVP’s to use to meet technical and commercial requirements
May approve new materials, aid in definition of WW Apps raw materials status and rationalization of category and consult in quality related issues.
May lead on-going core functional process.
Represents Applications in professional business relationships with Innova customer and supplier base, academia, government and corporations in the food industry
Responsible for maintaining the security of all information regarding product formulas and related confidential information.
Minimum level of education: BS in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Chemistry or related technical degree.
Experience Minimum would be 6 years of R&D Product Development experience within the food industry.
Broad exposure to a range of product forms and unit operations
Product development experience related to functional ingredients
Proven ability to develop and commercialize new technologies/process improvements
Flavor industry experience a plus
Practical culinary skills & and interest in new food & ingredient trends a plus
Intermediate computer and math skills required – at a minimum be able to use Microsoft office applications
