We currently have an immediate opportunity for a Health Safety & Environmental Specialist to join us at our Lakeland, FL site.
The site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) Specialist plays a key role in the site management team to ensure overall compliance with the Corporate HS&E Management System while being recognized by the business as a solution partner in resolving challenges and building site capability in identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating risk.
This position will ensure the local management systems are effectively designed, implemented, and controlled, highlighting significant areas of risk to site management and proposing solutions. Provide data analysis, trending, and recommendations to the site in support of continuous improvement and develop and provide technical and administrative direction on all HS&E matters at the site.
Facilitate and implement Corporate HS&E Management System strategy and performance targets by collaborating with local and regional management.
Support local management in executing Health, Safety and Environmental programs and legal requirements.
Facilitate and support line management through investigation of all injuries, illnesses and incidents, and ensure outputs are used to enhance the Management System.
Review plant compliance and advise management accordingly. Make suggestions for improvements and implement corrective actions.
Implement and maintain a Site HS&E Action Plan to track site continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage environmental continuous improvement initiatives
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the site operation and detailed processes and ensure key risks are well-understood and mitigated through the site Management System.
Conduct routine audits and employee contacts to ensure the efficacy of the site Management System. Report on deviations from standard to site management team and ensure Line Management lead issue resolution.
Develop HS&E training content, safety alerts and topics.
Support management in maintaining ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 system certifications.
Prepare periodic environmental/regulatory reports for the regulatory authorities and Company.
Coordinate environmental permitting (air, water, waste) and ensure maintenance of documentation.
Support regional and global continuous improvement initiatives.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret statistical data, general business periodicals, professional journals, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation drawings/diagrams from vendors and design engineers, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and employees.
Ability to work with mathematical and statistical concepts.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to critically evaluate results, make recommendations and reports on projects.
Microsoft Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Advanced in Excel
SAP, CoreDB – a plus
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
B.S. Degree in HS&E, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field
2 - 7 years of experience in HS&E manufacturing environment. Food and flavor industry experience a plus.
Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations, PSM processes,
Familiar with root cause and risk assessment methodologies
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Must be able to work in and around all laboratory and production areas on a regular basis.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Most work is completed in office environment, but will frequently be exposed to plant environment.
Odor (sometimes strong) are expected
Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach, push and pull with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, for extend periods of time and on regular basis, or crawl; talk, hear.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to be ‘on call” as necessary and provide technical assistance as needed, including evenings, holidays and weekends via telephonic or on-site work.
